Nestled in the scenic landscape of Uttarakhand's Chamoli district, the village of Veena is a place of unparalleled beauty. But it's also a region grappling with the grim consequences of environmental degradation. Its lush forests, the lifeblood of the community, witness recurring landslides, and the looming threat of soil erosion and forest fires cast a dark shadow.

The Chamoli district is no stranger to the calamities caused by landslides, triggered by heavy and relentless monsoon rains. Seeing their fair share of devastation over the years, its residents were clear that the time for change couldn’t come soon enough.

With sights set on a regenerative future, the Flipkart Foundation, in partnership with two NGOs, SankalpTaru Foundation (which is committed to sustainable development and nature conservation) and Give Foundation (which ardently champions climate change adaptation), began the 'Seed Bombing' initiative.

Our goal was to reinvigorate Chamoli's green cover, the same land where the renowned 'Chipko Movement' had its roots, to empower the region’s people and foster environmental consciousness by leveraging innovation right at the grassroots level. By reducing soil erosion and restoring the green cloak of the mountainous region, the initiative is impacting the lives of over 27,000 people across 63 villages in the district.

Our colossal endeavour of distributing over one million seed balls became a testament to efficient community engagement. People of all ages, from women to children and men, participated actively in the initiative. Their collective mission was to nurture a wholesome, sustainable ecosystem, sowing the seeds of a green legacy for future generations. In this pristine corner of the world, the journey to a greener tomorrow has commenced, one seed bomb at a time.
