At Flipkart, we align our Corporate Social Responsibility activities to the overarching theme of "Building India Together".
With this goal, 'Flipkart Cares' was launched to serve, support, and empower unskilled and underprivileged sections of society.
To institutionalize these efforts of Flipkart in creating sustainable social impact and to streamline our CSR program delivery, we went on to establish the "Flipkart Foundation" in 2022. The Foundation focuses on continuing the work done through Flipkart Cares, in various sectors to ensure maximum reach and sustainable impact.
Facilitate an inclusive, equitable, empowered and sustainable society in India
Have grassroot level, at-scale and institutionalised impact towards driving sustained livelihood and growth opportunities in India
At Flipkart, there has always been great intent and enthusiasm to support initiatives on the ground. Be it supporting grassroots-level interventions, celebrating festivals with the underprivileged to spread cheer, or commemorating days of relevance as a mark of commitment to the causes, Flipkart has engaged with passion and purpose to make a difference on the ground. Some of the key interventions are listed below:
The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the ways of life at an unprecedented scale across the globe including India. The adverse effects were visible on all facets of life including health, livelihood, nutrition, education including mental and emotional wellbeing. Flipkart through the joint efforts of employees, sellers as well as customers [through SuperCoins donation drive] extended relief support.
Flipkart employees visited Government Schools around Bengaluru to make the occasion special for students and teachers alike. Further, Flipkart initiated the Toys for Smile Campaign whereby for every toy purchased on Flipkart between 10th and 12th November, a toy was gifted to an underprivileged child. On Children’s Day in 2019, we raised funds for some of the vulnerable and disadvantaged children, by collaborating with Karunalaya.
Flipkart partnered with Miracle Foundation and conducted a fundraiser to aid the Foundation’s efforts to enable housemothers to continue to provide the same love and care, as our mothers do, to orphaned children across India.
Flipkart celebrated the Joy of Giving Week for the first time. Flipkart partnered with GiveIndia, and raised funds for 6 NGOs namely Haritika [for nature conservation], Udayan Care [for upskilling of under-served women and girls], Goonj [supporting rural women with menstrual kits], Charlie's Animal Rescue Centre [medical care for animals], Uma Educational & Technical Society [for changing the lives of the differently-abled], and Magic Bus [for ensuring underprivileged kids complete secondary education and learn for life]
During this Joy of Giving week, Flipsters committed to support in the following ways:
This support would go a very long way in equipping the government hospitals to combat the pandemic efficiently. We deeply appreciate Flipkart for their phenomenal support to us.
Our partnership with Flipkart and Myntra helped us provide much-needed medical and humanitarian relief as part of GiveIndia’s India Covid Response Fund-2. Thanks to the close cooperation, we could procure essential medical equipment, provide ambulance services, and enhance oxygen infrastructure across the country.
By supporting the idea of empowering women instead of feeding them, Flipkart Foundation is infact, also empowering Chintan to make long-lasting, sustainable change and bringing in gender equity.
The focus and zeal by the Flipkart team to create real on-ground impact measurably and then analyse to improve delivery to bring maximum sustainable positive change are indeed laudable and very reassuring.
Since early last year, COVID-19 has been continuously affecting lives across the globe, and the situation was not much different in India as well. It was during the first wave that Flipkart started supporting Doctors for You and the association grew even stronger during the second wave and time after the second wave.
